What is a Writing Ministry?

I can’t say if I ever heard the term Writing Ministry before God spoke it to my spirit in the fall of 2021.

at the time, I was teaching Bible studies for a faith-based nonprofit organization.

While doing my exegetical study on 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, something stood out to me.

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (NASB).

Does God have a ministry specifically for me?

After being called to Bible college in 2012, which I finally agreed to when Jesus said, “Your computer work is of this world, your dreams are of Me,” I only worked for other people’s ministries.

and here I was again, as noble as it was, working for someone else’s ministry.

As I reflected on 1 Cor. 12: 5, revelation broke down the door in my mind…

What were my dreams only God knew about that persuaded mein such a profound way, to ditch my career in technology for a “degree in Bible?”

To be a Writer.

And when I’m daring enough to speak it into the atmosphere…

An Author.

A Writing Ministry is part of the Christian life

Whether it’s:

  • journaling

  • blogs

  • articles

  • devotions

  • books

  • newsletters

  • or notes scratched down during a Sunday sermon

the written word is mightier than the sword – and it is the sword at the same time.

Writing is how we record our thoughts, remember the things God has done in our lives, and expel our endless rumination regarding the circumstances of life.

Writing is how we can be heard when no one will listen to us.

Time spent with blank stares pondering life, searching for meaning and striving for purpose, the writer seeks out synonyms, finds excitement in newly discovered words, and embraces energy and exhilaration when she brings all those things together in one sentence or two.

The Writer wrestles with time & productivity, while she passionately desires to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

The Writer’s Writing Ministry is marked by God…

To write.

"the way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway" (Proverbs 15:19).
